Prologue
The world has changed significantly in the last three months. I answered these questions in January 2020. A publishing date was set for April 17, 2020.
Little did I know at that time how I would need to Access my Happy Place……Keep moments close to my heart and fresh in my memory…..Cherish an embrace from the people I love…..and let my Knowing Spirit and Soul guide me on this challenging flight.
Would You Rather?
I am delighted to be a guest on Jill Weatherholt’s “Would You Rather” series on her blog Jill Weatherholt #wouldyourather Jill is a talented writer and one of the kindest and most generous bloggers. Thank you Jill, for your warm welcome.
How would you answer these five questions?
This is a fun game of questions where I choose between two thought-provoking options and explain my answers.
These questions are more challenging than I anticipated.
The unexpected surprise is how much I learned about myself.

How would you answer these questions?
Hi Erica I loved your thoughts and left a comment for you. It didn’t show up so there is what I wrote: Hi Erica, lovely to read your thoughts and your answers made me take a moment to think of what may answers might be. First responses may not be really how I feel. I think I agree totally about freezing time – those cherished moments in our life that perhaps at the time we didn’t fully appreciate just how special they were. I also think finding our ‘happy place’ mentally is the perfect answer. It doesn’t matter where we live as long as we can visit our ‘happy place’ when we need to. As always I’m inspired by your words Erica and the beauty of your home. Best wishes to you and your family especially during this time. Thank you Jill for giving Erica the opportunity to share her wisdom with us. Take care xx

Hi Sue, Thank you for taking the time to comment here. I find my comments sometimes do not show up or just disappear? It seems to be a random thing. I don’t know why.
Sue, You are a strong proponent and an inspiration to many on mental and physical health. A happy place works for me. I am doing a lot more deep breathing/meditation every day. I really enjoy reading Jill’s #wouldyourather series and it is fun to play along. Thank you for your very kind, supportive comment today and always. Best wishes to you and your loved ones. Stay well. xx

Hi Erica – I admire you and your hubby for conquering the dreaded Malahat – that’s what I thought of it when I had a brief spell living there. I loved reading up on the Major who gave it a road so that he could reach his farmland in the Cowichan area … I’d have difficulty answering those questions – but mulling over your answers. Take care – Hilary

You made me smile, Hilary, “the dreaded Malahat.” I know you speak from first hand experience. You can tell I may have some cabin fever and miss my children when I say, “I miss the Malahat” right now. It is an exceptionally beautiful drive with amazing viewpoints (unless you are stuck for hours:) Goosebumps on your story about the Major reaching his farmland. I will Google more information. I hope all is as well as can be expected in your neck of the woods right now. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Stay well. xx

I wrote about it .. and there’s DVD from one of the historical societies in the Cowichan area – possibly at the Duncan museum …

and yes I was there. I can see you miss your children and those times on the lake circuit …
Just back from my walk along the promenade in Eastbourne … so ready for a cup of tea … and as Oliver is on … I think I’ll watch it!!
Take care and thanks for the reply – Hilary

I love this, Hilary! Fascinating. “….undesirable for heavy traffic…” This is still an issue as you well know. Very funny “….resort to walking…”. I can visualize holding on by degrees (this happened to us with our canoe and the Bowron Lakes a few times) Although, nothing like the Malahat. A great photo of the Kinsol Trestle, too. Do you mind if I forward this to some of my family and friends? I will bookmark and I look forward to reading other parts of this series. Thank you, Hilary!

No of course not … I’d be delighted – it’s quite a story about opening up the Island. There are boards in Cobble Hill on the green … which are pretty informative – and have a plan of the original farmsteads. The photo of the Kinsol came from the information boards at the Kinsol itself … (I think!).
Having just checked where Bowron Lakes are – what a fascinating park to be able to reach from the Island – I can see how much fun you must have had as a family.
Take care – and a pleasure … stay safe – Hilary

My daughter lives 3 kilometres from Kinsol Trestle and I had not really looked carefully at the information boards. Next time. My husband and I did the Bowron Lake circuit two times without children. It rained almost every day the first time. The second time, zero rain. Beautiful area. Take care. Stay well. xx

Hi Erica/ Erika, I left a comment on Jill’s site. Your writing and photos are beautiful. I think we both like to take a lot of photos, a way to freeze time or capture that moment in time. To be able to fly would be amazing. i do have taking flying lessons on my Ideas list 🙂 Have a wonderful weekend!

Hi Natalie, I am with you on taking lots of photos. I get lucky sometimes because of the sheer number of photos. Since we don’t have the children lately I find I am using one of your suggestions, where I pause for a second and then take the photo. Oh my goodness on the flying lessons. Do you mean in an airplane? I will ‘talk’ with you again on Jill’s site. Take care.

Such a thought provoking post. I had to really think about some of these but decided that the one I could answer easily was cook or clean – it has to be have someone clean for me…I hate cleaning.

Thank you, Joanne, for stopping by to comment here, too. It was fun to play along. Why am I not surprised on your ‘cooking’ answer? I did manage to get some of the lemon ingredients we were talking about. I am waiting a bit to make it, since it will be tempting to eat the entire dessert. 🙂 Thank you for visiting and sharing your thoughts.

I enjoyed reading your answers, Erica, and would have answered similarly to most of them. The freeze time or time travel one, I found difficult too.

Hi Norah, It was fun to play along. I agree with you how I was unsure how to answer freeze time or travel in time. I also wonder whether I would answer differently today, in our surreal world. It is fun and possibly liberating to be part of the writing/blogging community, especially right now. Thank you for sharing your thoughts. Take care.

I considered whether answers might differ in lockdown too, Erica, but decided it wouldn’t be a huge difference.

Isn’t it fun to join Jill’s series? I enjoyed reading your answers there, Erica. You picked five intriguing questions. And, you’re right, the more you think about them, the more difficult they are to answer. A road to self-discovery… 🙂

How fun, Erica!! I can see how some of the questions would really make you stop and spend some time pondering them. The thought of breathing underwater actually causes a little panic to rise in me. I have no idea why. I really enjoyed snorkeling, but I like lots of fresh air, so I’d definitely want to fly. Plus, I have had those same dreams of flying and wonder if it isn’t something our souls are already familiar with.

Amy, Thank you for reading and sharing your thoughts on Jill’s blog. At first, I played with the questions and thought of answering more as a game. I then gave the questions more thought. My husband and I had quite the discussion on breathing underwater versus flying this week. He thought I would have picked breathing underwater since I like seafood. I am with you, Amy, on how I much prefer the fresh air. It was only as I was composing the answer did I also wonder if our souls are familiar with this feeling. I mentioned on Jill’s site how I would love to read your answers since you look at life and the world in a very thoughtful way.xx

I think it is a great idea to leave comments open when you guest post. It gives readers a choice of commenting where they feel most comfortable. I haven’t done so in the past when I have guest blogged, but will follow your wise lead in the future.
